On behalf of the Organizing Committee, we are delighted to invite you to the 2nd Annual Virology Summit – ClinViCON 2026, to be held from 5th to 7th February 2026 at the Ida Scudder Auditorium, Christian Medical College, Vellore, India.

The theme of this year’s conference is:
“Integrating Virology and Clinical Care for a Healthier Future.”

This summit will bring together leading experts, clinicians, researchers, and academicians from across the country and abroad. The scientific program includes thematic sessions with clinical perspectives, panel discussions, debates, oral and poster presentations, and quizzes, providing an enriching academic experience.

Vellore is a historic town in Tamil Nadu, known for its rich culture, heritage, and academic excellence. Program Highlights

Thematic Scientific Sessions with Clinical Perspective:

Sessions will integrate cutting edge virological research with patientcare relevance. Emphasis will be on translating laboratory findings into diagnostics, treatment strategies, and public health interventions.

Panel Discussion on Pandemic preparedness

Multidisciplinary panels including clinicians, researchers, policymakers, and laboratory scientists will deliberate on critical topics—such as outbreak preparedness, and policy frameworks.

Quiz

Young students/scientists and clinicians will be challenged in a quiz that tests current knowledge in virology.

Oral Paper Presentations

Selected abstracts will be presented orally, giving authors the opportunity to showcase original research. Each presentation will be followed by expert feedback and discussion, enhancing visibility and providing networking with peers and seniors.

Poster Presentations

Posters offer a platform for a wide range of research—to be displayed and discussed informally. Attendees can engage with the presenters, explore emergent topics, and identify collaborative opportunities.

Industry Exhibits

A dedicated exhibit area for companies and technology providers will showcase the latest diagnostic platforms, laboratory equipment, reagents, and innovations. These exhibits facilitate partnerships between academia, clinicians, and industry.

About Dept. of Virology

The Department of Virology at Christian Medical College, Vellore, is a premier center dedicated to excellence in patient care, diagnostic services, teaching, and research in the field of medical virology.

Department Milestones:

  • 1950s: Arbovirus Laboratory established as a VRC (Poona) Field Station at CMC Vellore led by Dr. Donald E. Carey for identification of Japanese Encephalitis, Dengue, and West Nile viruses
  • 1966: CDC-supported Enterovirus Research Laboratory established at CMC led by Dr. Roger Feldman
  • 1968: Established India’s first full-fledged diagnostic virology laboratory led by Dr. T. Jacob John
  • 1970s: Conducted pioneering research on poliovirus which laid the foundation for polio eradication efforts in India
  • 1972: Conducted India’s first hepatitis B screening of blood donors
  • 1985: Pioneering studies that led to the introduction of the measles vaccine into India’s National Immunization Programme
  • 1986: Designated as National Reference Centre for HIV/AIDS under NACO
  • 1987: Developed the first HIV blood donor screening protocol among developing countries
  • 2011: First NABL-accredited virology laboratory in India
  • 2019: First NABL-accredited Virology PT/EQA program in India
  • 2020: Started India’s first DM Virology super-speciality course

The department provides comprehensive diagnostic services for a wide range of viral infections of public health importance, including emerging and re-emerging pathogens. Equipped with state-of-the-art molecular and serological testing facilities, it plays a critical role in supporting patient management, outbreak investigations, and public health surveillance. The Department of Virology, in particular, has played a central role in infectious disease research and diagnostics, making significant contributions in public health diseases such as HIV, viral hepatitis, dengue, influenza, COVID-19, and other emerging viral infections. By hosting this conference, CMC Vellore provides a unique platform for leading scientists, clinicians, and public health experts to come together, exchange ideas, and foster collaborations in the field of virology. The institution’s long-standing tradition of combining compassionate care with world-class research makes it the ideal venue to advance dialogue on viral diseases and global health preparedness. The department is a designated Center of Excellence for Influenza research and response (Emory-CEIRR) and the Clinical research centre & clinical research training program (DBT-WELLCOME India Allinace) In addition to patient care, the department is actively engaged in academic teaching and training. It offers postgraduate (MD) and doctoral (PhD) and DM programs, as well as hands-on training in advanced diagnostic techniques, nurturing the next generation of virologists and healthcare professionals. The department also has a vibrant research program, addressing important areas such as viral epidemiology, pathogenesis, immune responses, vaccine evaluation, and diagnostic innovation. Collaborative projects with national and international agencies have contributed significantly to advancements in understanding and managing viral diseases in India.
